About Your Mediator

Travis M. Smith has years of experience as a mediator. He began his training over 10 years ago as a peer mediator and has since become certified to mediate all types of disputes, including enhanced training in family law matters. In addition to mediating, Travis is a practicing attorney. He founded The Smith Firm in 2007, which primarily focuses on criminal law, civil litigation, estate planning, and real estate transactions, business formation and startup, construction law, consumer law, and employment law. During his free time, Travis volunteer mediates at the Dispute Resolution Center, where he was recently recognized with the prestigious “Above and Beyond” award for his many hours of pro bono mediation services.

Travis earned his law degree at The University of Texas School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the Texas Journal of Business Law, Member and Web Site Editor of the Texas Review of Entertainment and Sports Law, and member of the exclusive legal honor society, Phi Delta Phi. Prior to entering law school, Travis graduated from The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, with honors, in Management Information Systems and took international finance and marketing courses at ESADE in Barcelona, Spain.

Before becoming a lawyer-mediator, Travis held a number of business and legal positions. After law school he practiced at Philips & Philips, L.L.P., in Austin, Texas. Prior to that he clerked at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, in Washington, DC, and Joel B. Bennett, P.C. Travis has also held internships at a number of companies, including IBM, Tivoli Systems, and Minyard Food Stores.
